Quality Healthcare Kenya Awards Call for Entries

Nairobi, 15 February 2022: The third edition of Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards (QHKA) will recognise service providers, individuals and organisations in the health sector for their outstanding performance, positive contributions and innovation in improving the standards of health service delivery in Kenya, for quality people-centred health systems at a gala dinner ceremony to be held on April 7, 2022, at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

The initiative seeks to improve standards of health service delivery by recognising outstanding performance, promoting a culture of continuous Quality Improvement, advocating for strong partnerships between health providers and users, fostering innovation and the use of information technology and sharing best practices.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa in Kenya, the QHKA initiative which also unites the public and private sectors towards a common goal of quality care showcases the impact of quality health service delivery on the Kenyan health sector and creates a platform for collaboration is the brainchild of Zawadi Brand Solutions Limited (ZBS Ltd).

Now in its third year, QHKA continues to take on the mantle to change the narrative and showcase the impact of the positive contributions on the Kenyan health sector for scalability and sustainability.

On July 3, 2019, the first QHKA recipients were recognised at an award gala dinner event that was graced by the former Cabinet Secretary for Health Mrs Sicily Kariuki and Makueni County Governor, Prof Kivutha Kibwana. The sold-out event was attended by guests drawn from finalists, event partners and sponsors, Ministry of Health officials, individuals, media and corporate entities from across Africa. The organisations and individuals honoured at the 2019 award ceremony included: Tunza Social Franchise – Award of Excellence in Improving Access to Primary Care Services, Jacaranda Health – Award of Excellence in Advancing Maternal and Child Health, Miritini CDF Health Centre – Health Facility Innovation Project of the Year, Rock Health Integrated Care Organization – Student Innovation Project of the Year, Prof Khama Rogo – Lifetime Achievement Award, Damu-Sasa – Use of Information Technology to Improve Patient Care, Trust Condoms by PS Kenya – Award of Media Excellence in Promoting Health and Well-Being, Kukachora by PS Kenya – Best Use of Social Media in Healthcare, Dr Kevin Rombosia – Healthcare Leadership Award, Makueni County – County with the Best Managed Healthcare, Makueni County Referral Hospital – Public Hospital of Choice, M.P Shah Hospital – Private Hospital of Choice, and Tenwek Mission Hospital – Faith-Based Hospital of Choice.

Winners of the second edition were honoured at a virtual award ceremony held on 7th April 2021. The event was attended by Dr Patrick Amoth, the Director-General for Health and Dr Mercy Mwangangi the CAS for Health representing Hon. Mutahi Kagwe the Cabinet Secretary for Health. The Winners of the 2021 Awards for Excellence in Healthcare Quality were: Shining Hope For Communities (SHOFCO) – Award of Excellence in Improving Access to Primary Care services, Kisumu Medical and Education Trust (KMET) – Award of Excellence in Advancing Maternal and Child Health, Lifecare Hospitals Bungoma – Health Facility Innovation Project of the Year, The Drug Free Youth Project – Student Innovation Project of the Year, Dr Gianfranco Morino – Lifetime Achievement Award, Akiba ya Roho by Access Afya – Use of Information Technology to Improve Patient Care, PS Kenya – Best Use of Social Media in Healthcare, Glivec International Patient Assistance Program (GIPAP) by The Nairobi Hospital – Award of Excellence in Improving Access to Essential Medicines and vaccines, Mamaprime – Healthcare Financing Innovation Award, Nasibo Sarbo – Health Leadership Award, Mombasa County – County with the best Managed Healthcare, The Nairobi Hospital – Award of Excellence in Response to COVID-19, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital – Private Hospital of Choice, Makindu Sub County Hospital – Public Hospital of Choice and Kijabe (AIC) Hospital – Faith-Based Hospital of Choice.

The online nominations for Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards 2022 are ongoing and will close on 28th February 2022. The nomination entries are submitted online on the Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards website; https://qualityhealthcareawards.com/awards-menu/

Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards (QHKA)

Quality Healthcare Kenyan awards (QHKA) has taken on the mantle and seeks to change the narrative and showcase impact of the positive contributions on the Kenyan health sector for scalability and sustainability. Health services require quality as a foundation. For this reason, QHKA will honour excellence and innovation in the health sector with a goal of quality patient-centred care.

 

QHKA an initiative of ZBS Ltd was conceptualised in 2017 by a Global Health Leader and an Ophthalmology Resident. ZBS Ltd is a healthcare consultancy company dedicated to advancing health in the region for better health outcomes through highly innovative and responsive initiatives that improve the functions of the health system. These interventions are geared towards stewardship, human and physical resources, service delivery and also health financing for more effective and inclusive health systems.
